The Developing City exhibition - Walks

Twin walking tours, led by the Blue Badge Guides, covering both eastern and western areas of the City, will look at the interplay of new and old architecture, demonstrating the complexity of inserting new ideas and developments into the dense urban fabric of the City’s medieval street-plan.

City East

Quando:
8 August, 18.00-19.30

Meeting point:
Londres - Reception of The Developing City exhibition at The Walbrook Building

Tracking the riverbank before heading landwards into the centre of a developing cluster of high-rise towers, this walk, led by the Blue Badge Guides, demonstrates the complexity of inserting massive 21st century developments into what is essentially still a tight medieval street plan. We look at the architecture, construction and environmental requirements of these buildings, and will see work by Foggo Associates, Rogers Stirk Harbour and Kohn Pedersen Fox amongst others.

City West

Quando:
11 August, 14.00-15.30

Meeting point:
Londres - Reception of The Developing City exhibition at The Walbrook Building

Covering ground between Bank Junction and St Paul's Cathedral, this walk, led by the Blue Badge Guides, illustrates the City planning authorities willingness to take architectural risks. We encounter striking visual contrast with the placement of uncompromising contemporary designs adjacent to Grade 1 listed buildings, and consider the planning process that led to approval. Amongst numerous practices with projects under-construction and completed in the western city are OMK, Eric Parry Architects and Jean Nouvel.
