The book has been developed from the findings of an EU research project, co-ordinated by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Change Studies and presents an integrated impact assessment of regulations, incentives, economic instruments and infrastructure measures on urban sprawl. Policies imposed by European, national and regional agencies will be investigated and options for improvement developed. This assessment is driven by finding robust answers to the following questions: bull; bull;What are recent trends and issues of sprawl (case studies on Liverpool, Stockholm, Leipzig, Warsaw, Ljubjana, Vienna, Athens)? bull;What aspects characterise European pattern(s) of urban sprawl? How can stakeholders be involved to assess these ‘sustainable scenarios’? bull;What constitutes best practices with regard to the management of urban sprawl?
