The European Prize for Urban Public Space was established with the objective of highlighting the importance of architecture and urban planning in the creation of more accessible and democratic cities. At the present time, it is the only European award which seeks, protects and supports essentially public urban areas which can revitalise a city’s collective lifestyle. The Award is an initiative of the CCCB – Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona – with the collaboration of The Architecture Foundation (London), the Architekturzentrum Wien (Vienna), the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine (Paris), the Nederlands Architectuurinstituut (Rotterdam), The Museum of Finnish Architecture (Helsinki) and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (Frankfurt).
